Working from South Africa on UK servers over 4G and 5G, SSH sessions froze and dropped, and each drop took Claude Code’s agent context with it.
There are three layers. Tailscale replaces a Cloudflare Tunnel with a direct WireGuard mesh. mosh replaces the SSH session and survives IP changes, tower roaming and multi-minute outages, with local echo to hide the lag. tmux keeps the real session alive on the server, so a drop costs nothing.
The daily driver is one command: mosh you@yourserver -- tmux new -A -s main.
Limitation: none of this removes the roughly 250ms of latency, only the drops it causes.
